Knew I’d be lacking a decent mileage this weekend, but managed a short birthday blast from Westoning to Winslow and back with Policeman Pete and his brother in law, Chris.

Chris is a dark horse. He’s also in training, for the Etap du Tour, where amateur cyclists have a bash a just one of the Tour de France mountain stages a fortnight before the real race starts. This year the stage is about 180km with frightening height gains and 20km climbs. Apparently it’s fun!  Anyway he was keeping a steady cadence on the way out (as you do) and we were all feeling comfy along the Buckinghamshire lanes.

Pete managed the comedian’s  dismount in Winslow square, forgetting the unclip-pedal-before- stopping-bike rule for our entertainment and we went for a pot of tea.

After a cuppa we set off for a pleasant 25 mile thrash home (once Pete had stopped whining about his injured knee) and got a tailwind for good measure. So much so that we held back for Chris and his strict heartbeat-cadence rhythm thing.  Stupid move. On a 3 mile uphill section to Little Brickhill he got ahead and disappeared into the distance. I think his training is coming on fine.

Thanks Chris, now you can sponsor me! (and I haven’t forgotten you Pete.)

Now we’ve got Easter to look forward to and the long-anticipated ride with Mat & I cycling from Godalming to Barton on Sea in the New Forest.  Time to programme the Memory Map GPS toy.
